International Knowledge School (IKS), established in 2010, is a distinguished educational institution approved by the Department of Foreign Education within the Libyan Ministry of Education. Founded on the principle of bridging local educational values with international standards, the school was designed to meet the evolving demands of a globalized world. Recognizing that English has become a cornerstone for international communication, IKS introduced two distinct departments, Local and International, to provide diverse yet complementary educational experiences. The school’s foundational goal was to promote academic excellence while equipping students with language proficiency, particularly in English, to interact effectively within today’s interconnected world.
The International Department initially operated with only a British Section, offering a range of academic programs from KG1 to Grade 12. This section adheres to Pearson Edexcel curricula, including iPrimary, iLowerSecondary, IGCSE, and International A-Level pathways, enabling students to access globally recognized qualifications. The British Section has grown steadily over the years, demonstrating a commitment to high academic standards and student development. In 2024, the school expanded its international offerings by introducing an American Section for Grades 9 to 12. This section follows the Savvas curriculum, opening new pathways for students to pursue higher education across North America and other regions where the American system is recognized.
Meanwhile, the Local Department delivers education in Arabic across all subjects, aligning closely with the Libyan National Curriculum. To reinforce the importance of bilingual proficiency, IKS introduces English using the MacMillan curriculum from Grades 1 through 8, transitioning to the Libyan National English curriculum in Grade 9 to align with National Middle School Examinations. Arabic and Islamic Studies are taught according to the Libyan curriculum across both departments, preserving cultural heritage and ensuring religious education. In the British Section, students in Grades 9 and 10 study Arabic under the IGCSE Arabic as a First Language curriculum, offering a more advanced linguistic approach and meeting international standards.
