An Introduction to Jumpstart & Headstart

Jumpstart is the name of our full day kindergarten program. Headstart is the name of our afternoon and
evening elementary school program. All are full English immersion schools where children are immersed
in an English environment for long periods to help them learn through exposure to the language.
Jumpstart was founded in 1991. We found ourselves dissatisfied with the quality of English language
education available in Taipei. As a result, we decided to establish a new school based on North American
teaching methods that could teach English and encourage each child to become comfortable with using
the language.

Initially, the school started off with a single class of eight students and one teacher.  Within a few months,
the school moved to a new location and began expanding its educational contacts. By the summer of
1993, Jumpstart was already being noticed for its teaching. The Youth Activity Council asked Jumpstart to
participate in an international children’s summer camp and provide home‐stays for fourteen overseas
students visiting Taiwan. The same year, Sheng‐Hsin Elementary School asked Jumpstart to begin
supplying teachers for its English classes.

In 1994, the school expanded its size further and began offering consulting services to other English
schools in the area. Jumpstart has helped establish a number of new schools across Taiwan over the
years.    Jumpstart has 5 schools in Taipei (Northern Taiwan) and 1 large campus in Tainan (Southern
Taiwan).

As Jump Start grows, we want to ensure that we are able to maintain a high standard of education and
continue to attend to each of our student’s needs.
